Magic Write (AI Text Generator)
One of the remarkable AI tools in Canva is Magic Write, which harnesses the power of OpenAI’s GPT3 to generate text effortlessly. Imagine starting your maths class with a series of quick questions to assess your students’ understanding. With Magic Write, you can prompt it to create five multiple-choice questions for Year 8 fractions without answers. Furthermore, you can set a timer in Canva Whiteboard, making the exercise even more engaging.

The flexibility of Magic Write allows you to regenerate text output or edit the existing content. During class discussions, you can utilize the draw feature to annotate the answers, making it an ideal tool for interactive whiteboards. However, if you don’t have access to interactive whiteboards, a mouse or touch screen device works just as well.
Whether you have a free or premium Canva account, Magic Write proves to be a valuable asset. The free account allows up to 25 uses in total, while premium users get 250 queries per month (as of 31 July 2023). Fortunately, teacher accounts provide access to premium features, making it even more accessible for educators.
AI Image Generator
Next up, we have the AI Image generator, another cool AI tool within Canva. This tool takes text input and converts it into stunning images, providing endless creative possibilities for educators. For example, you can use it to create captivating visual prompts for creative writing exercises. Simply input the prompt e.g. “futuristic technology,” and watch as the AI generates an image to inspire your students’ imaginations.

The AI Image generator also allows you to remove elements from the image using the Eraser tool, and you can even add to the image with the Magic Edit feature. With such versatility, this tool becomes an indispensable aid in crafting engaging visual content for your lessons.
The availability of the AI Image generator depends on your Canva account plan. Free accounts offer up to 50 queries, while premium plans provide 500 queries per month (as of 31 July 2023).
Unleash the Potential: Prompts and Ideas
Beyond its basic functionalities, Magic Write and the AI Image generator offer a range of applications that can enhance your teaching experience. For instance, you can use Magic Write to expedite lesson planning by creating differentiated questions or engaging discussion prompts. Additionally, it serves as an excellent tool for generating exit ticket questions to assess your students’ comprehension at the end of a lesson.
